The Arab Commission for Human Rights along with the Arab Foundation for Development & Citizenship, and the French Observatory for Human Rights have issued a report on the first hearing before the Court of First Instance in Sals (Morocco) that took place on the 16th of October 2008, under judicial monitoring of the six detainees' case.
A number of Arab Human Rights organizations met in Kiev in April 2008 and expressed their deep concern about the arrests and prosecution of politicians in this case and emphasized that this threatens political freedoms in the country and threatens licensed political parties’ officials with terrorism charges. The meeting has also appointed a number of human rights activists to follow the case.
The Arab Commission for Human Rights, the Arab Foundation for Development & Citizenship and the French Observatory for Human Rights have agreed on Mr. Haitham Manna as their representative and the representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Anti-Terrorism Department to follow up the case and keep them informed as well as to attend the international judicial control in the first hearing of the trial.
The six political prisoners are: Professor Mohammad Marwani Secretary-General of the Umma Party, Mr. Mustafa Mu'tasim Secretary General of the civilized alternative, Mr. Mohamed El Amine Regala the Secretary's official spokesman of the Civilized Alternative party, Professor Hamid Alnaguibni leading member of the United Socialist Party, Professor Abadleh Maouelainin a leading member of the Justice and Development Party, and Journalist Abdul-Hafiz Al-Manar, correspondent of al-Manar Satellite Channel.
